16-Year-Old Arrested In Lodi Crash That Killed Lyft Driver, Passenger

LODI (CBS13) - Police have identified the victims in a deadly Lodi crash as a Lyft driver and his passenger, and arrested a 16-year-old boy.

The crash happened just before 8 p.m. on Monday at the intersection of Lodi and Pleasant Avenues. Lodi police investigators say a Nissan Altima heading north blew through the stop sign at the intersection and crashed into a car heading east.

The driver of the Nissan was taken into custody a short distance away from the scene, police say. He has been identified as a 16-year-old boy.

As captured on video by a witness at the scene, a passenger in the Nissan took off running from the scene. Police say they have identified him and want to bring him in for questioning.

The driver, 62-year-old Anthony Pena, and a passenger, 43-year-old David Solon Phillips, both of Stockton, were killed in the crash, police say. Pena was a Lyft driver and his passenger was a customer.

Lyft released the following statement on Tuesday:

Our hearts go out to all involved in this tragic accident. We will support in any way we can and work with the authorities in their ongoing investigation.

The 16-year-old driver has been arrested and is facing charges of vehicular manslaughter, DUI, possession of a stolen vehicle and possession of a stolen firearm.
