11-Year-Old Elk Grove Boy Arrested; Police Say He Beat His Disabled Mother
ELK GROVE (CBS13) – An 11-year-old Elk Grove boy has been arrested for beating his disabled mother who was dependent upon him for her care, according to officials.
Elk Grove Police got a call on September 10 from someone reporting possible abuse at a home on the 7200 block of Sutherland Way.
After investigating, the boy was taken into custody. Police say the boy struck his mother, who has a pre-existing medical condition, with an extension cord several times and that she had visible injuries.
The mother had been physically assaulted by her son on several previous occasions, according to police.
"I cannot recall a case in which a kid has been taken into custody on charges of abusing a parent who has fiduciary responsibility for the child," said Elk Grove Police Officer Chris Trim. "Typically the situation is reversed. A kid will go to school with marks or bruises, and someone calls police and the parent is arrested."
Trim said the boy will likely faces charges of assault with a deadly weapon and elder abuse. He was not legally his mother's caretaker but due to circumstances he provided care for her, Trim said.
The boy has been taken to juvenile hall. His mother is now hospitalized.
