105 Children Rescued In Nationwide Sex Trafficking Crackdown
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — The FBI says 12 children have been rescued and 17 alleged pimps were arrested in the San Francisco Bay Area as part of a nationwide crackdown on child sex trafficking.
San Francisco FBI Special Agent in Charge David Johnson said Monday that the Bay Area had the highest number of child prostitutes who were rescued in the country during last week's sweep known as Operation Cross Country.
Two children were recovered in the Sacramento area, including a 15-year-old from Fresno and a 14-year-old from Sacramento.
The FBI says the Bay Area accounted for 11.4% of the rescued children and 11.3% of the total number of alleged pimps arrested natiofnwide.
Nationally, 105 children who were forced into prostitution were rescued and 150 people described as pimps were arrested during the raids across 76 cities in the United States.
Detroit and Milwaukee had the second-highest number of child prostitutes rescued with 10 each.
