100-Mile Joyride In Stolen Transit Bus From San Francisco Ends With Arrest
MANTECA (CBS13) — A bus stolen from San Francisco's transbay terminal was finally recovered after a 100-mile joyride.
The California Highway Patrol stopped the stolen bus using spike strips on Highway 120 near Sawyer Road after pursuing it for 20 miles.
Carlos Morgado and his friend, an off duty AC Transit employee were on Highway 99 when they got the call to keep an eye out for bus number 1085.
The stolen bus was just a few cars ahead. The duo followed, keeping a safe distance.
"All I could think is, 'Is he going to kill somebody with that? He's not going to stop.'"
It wasn't long before CHP officers spotted the stolen bus.
Safety concerns prevented officers from making a traffic stop right away.
Officers say the man behind the wheel blew through stop signs and sped. Once the driver passed through Escalon, officers made their move.
"The vehicle was ultimately spike-stripped in order to stop the pursuit."
The driver pulled over on the shoulder and officers quickly arrested 29-year-old Justin Moss.
It's not clear how or why he stole the locked bus in the first place. The bus was parked as a backup unit and had a full tank of gas.
Moss, who is from San Francisco, faces a long list of charges and is locked up in San Joaquin County.
