10-Year-Old Girl Unharmed After Finding Needle In Trick-Or-Treat Bag
CITRUS HEIGHTS (CBS13) - In between the Snickers, Butterfingers, and Kit Kats, a 10-year-old girl found a surprise in her Halloween bag that could have been the start of a Halloween horror story.
There's a reason 8-year-old Jacob is emptying out his Halloween catch of the day. He wants to share with his friend Audrina.
"I got Kit Kats, and I got Milky Ways, and I got Reese's," said Jacob.
Yes, even the Reese's, and the ones he's already munched on. No matter, 10-year-old Audrina doesn't care.
Why? Because, Lorena Espino, Audrina's mother, made her daughter throw out most of her candy after an eye-opening, and not-so-sweet, surprise.
"I was shocked because I didn't know what it was," said Espino.
She knows now it was a needle, the type a diabetes patient would use. It was still in its package, and in Audrina's bag of goodies.
Espino is grateful her daughter didn't get stuck, even after Audrina peeled back the needle's wrapping. However, mom does wonder whether this was a simple mistake or a sick Halloween prank.
"I don't know because that's not something you just leave laying around, even if you're diabetic," said Espino.
So it was time to throw out most of her daughters Halloween haul, just in case.
"It was kind of hard to throw the candy out," said Espino. "But it's better than taking any chances."
So Audrina got stuck with a Halloween bummer, but she's still smiling thanks to her buddy Jacob, who reminds us the giving season is really year-round.
