10-Year-Old Girl Shot Inside Rancho Cordova Home
RANCHO CORDOVA (CBS13/AP) -- Authorities are trying to determine how a 10-year-old girl got shot inside a Rancho Cordova home where officers had been called to break up a loud gathering.
Sacramento County sheriff's deputies arrived at the home shortly after midnight Monday and found the child with a gunshot wound to her upper right hip. Officials say she wasn't seriously hurt and was taken to the hospital for treatment.
Deputies reported that the family was uncooperative in the investigation. Deputies first were told the girl had been outside when she was shot.
"You would expect that we would know a little bit more and that family members of this young girl of the victim would want to be cooperative with the investigation," said sheriff's spokesman Deputy Jason Ramos.
"We have to consider this may have been an accident that people don't want to held accountable for," he said.
CBS13's Derek Shore knocked on the door of the home on El Parque Drive but no one answered. A get-well card was posted to the front door.
