Explosion levels Crescent Township home and leaves 2 people dead

Heavy black smoke was seen billowing into the sky following reports of a loud explosion in Crescent Township on Tuesday morning.

First responders rushed to the scene on Riverview Road in Crescent Township.

In addition to first responders from Crescent Township, officials from Moon Township, Sewickley and Ambridge emergency workers were all called to the scene.

All that was left from the intense explosion was some framing of the home and the foundation.

The Allegheny County Fire Marshal and the ATF are investigating the cause of the explosion.

A man and a woman have died in the explosion, the Crescent Township fire chief said.

"Severe, absolutely extreme," Chief Tomer said. "I know the reports that the explosion was heard and felt throughout all of Crescent, Moon, into Robinson, across the river. It was a decent size explosion."
