Youngest "Greensburg 6" Member Re-Sentenced To Life In Prison

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Prosecutors say she was the instigator behind the torture and killing of a mentally disabled woman.

Today, the youngest member of the so-called "Greensburg Six" was re-sentenced.

Angela Marinucci's previous life sentence was overturned because she was a juvenile at the time of the murder.

She was back in court today hoping for a lighter sentence.

Convicted in February of 2010 of the torture and murder of Jennifer Daugherty, Marinucci was to be resentenced for her part in the shocking crime.

Because she was juvenile, Marinucci's original "mandatory" life without parole sentence was overturned by a higher court.

Today, Judge Rita Hathaway said while she cannot make a sentence mandatory, she could still make sure the 21-year-old never spends another day as a free woman and she did just that – sentencing Marinucci to life without parole.

"Hate to call it a victory, but it's a victory," said Daugherty's sister Joy Burkholder.

In an emotional and detailed resentencing hearing, Judge Hathaway pointed out Marinucci's culpability and leadership in Daugherty's brutal killing.

Hathaway said, "Angela Marinucci played a major role in the execution of this crime. She knew what she was doing, she was manipulative."

After the re-sentencing, Daugherty's mother and stepfather spoke out, not of rage, but of compassion for Marinucci's family, who Judge Hathaway called hard working and stable.

"We have no ill feelings toward your family, none," said Bobby Murphy, Jr., Daugherty's stepfather.

"We don't raise our children to murder," said Daugherty's mother Denise. "I do have a lot of empathy for their family."
