WVU Ranked 23rd In AP Poll After Backyard Brawl
MORGANTOWN, W. Va. (KDKA/AP) - West Virginia is up to No. 23 in The Associated Press college football poll. The Mountaineers are coming off a win over Pittsburgh and could still win the Big East's BCS bowl spot if Connecticut loses this weekend. West Virginia faces Rutgers on Saturday.
Oregon and Auburn remain in the top two spots followed by TCU moving up to No. 3 after Boise State lost to Nevada 34-31 on Saturday. As a result of having its 24-game winning streak snapped, the Broncos fell six spots in the AP Poll.
Wisconsin moves up in the rankings to fourth and Stanford is fifth. The BCS standings will help decide the winner of the Big Ten conference, which has three teams tied at top. With Wisconsin ranked fourth they have the edge that will send them to the Rose Bowl.
The gap between the Ducks and Tigers shrank to 19 points. The Ducks have 36 first-place votes and 1,475 points, while Auburn has 23 and 1,456 from the media panel.
