West Virginia Federal Probation Officer Shot And Killed His Wife Then Himself
BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. (AP) — A supervisory federal probation officer in West Virginia shot and killed his wife, then took his own life on New Year's Day, Bridgeport Police Chief John Walker told The Exponent Telegram.
Kelly Zummo and Vincent Zummo were arguing outside of their Bridgeport home when Vincent Zummo began shooting at his wife late on Friday morning, Walker said. Responding officers found Kelly Zummo, 48, dead in a vehicle that had crashed into a home on an adjacent street, Walker said. Vincent Zummo, 47, was found inside the couple's home where he had committed suicide.
Kelly Zummo was an engineering manager for Pratt & Whitney Engine Services in Bridgeport, and had been with the company since March 1998. Vincent Zummo had been a federal probation officer since March 2001.
Jon Wright, chief U.S. probation officer for the Northern District of West Virginia, issued a statement Saturday extending sympathy to the couple's children.
"It is with heavy hearts that we have learned about the untimely deaths of Supervisory United States Probation Officer Vincent T. Zummo and his wife, Kelly Zummo," Wright said in the statement.
