Wounded Teen Dies After Being Found On Hill District Stairs

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Pittsburgh Police are investigating the shooting death of a teenager who was found by passersby late Friday night on some city steps in the Hill District.

According to police, 17-year-old Tymere Prior was pronounced dead around 4 a.m. this morning at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital.

He had suffered a gunshot wound to the back of the head.

Police say two pedestrians found Prior around 9:30 p.m. Friday; he was "draped over the railing on the steps" near the Orion Street and Webster Avenue.

"We got a call from 911 saying two pedestrians found a body slumped over some stairs," said Sonya Toler, of the Pittsburgh Department of Public Safety.

Prior was rushed to the hospital, but died of his injuries.

"We saw the victim had been bleeding from the mouth and the back of the head, but it wasn't discovered that he was actually suffering from a gunshot wound until he arrived at UPMC Presby," said Toler.

The investigation continues.

Right now, police have a long list of questions. They don't know if he was shot and taken to that location.

Detectives have no suspects and no motive for the crime.

They're asking the public for help.

"There were no immediate witnesses to anything that had happened," said Toler. "If someone heard something, we need any kind of input the public might have to help solve this."
