WTC Column Unveiled At 9/11 Memorial In Moon Twp.
MOON TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- Part of the World Trade Center now stands as a lasting memorial here in our region.
In remembrance of the 10th anniversary of Sept. 11, the Moon Township Volunteer Fire Company dedicated a steel artifact from the Twin Towers to stand as a public tribute to the nearly 3,000 people who lost their lives in the attacks.
The ceremony took place Sunday at the Moon Township Memorial Garden on Beaver Grade Road.
The 898-pound piece of steel was part of a column from the North Tower.
Moon Township Fire Marshal Charlie Belgie, a 63-year member of the township's volunteer fire company, led the two-year mission to bring the column to our region.
"We wouldn't give up on it," said Belgie. "It arrived due to the cooperation of many, many people. It's in its deserving place now as a memorial."
