LAWRENCEVILLE (KDKA) - A man is accused of breaking into his ex-girlfriend's Lawrenceville home and stabbing her early Sunday morning.
According to a criminal complaint, officers were sent to a home on Davison Street near Service Way around 1:30 a.m. for a report of a stabbing.
When first responders arrived at the scene, they found a female victim suffering from multiple stab wounds and lacerations. She was transported to a local hospital in serious but stable condition.
The victim's son told police he was sleeping in a room next to his mother's bedroom and was woken up by a loud commotion coming from his mother's bedroom. He said he got out of bed to see what was happening and saw his mother's ex-boyfriend, 54-year-old Israel McNair, running down the stairs.
After police secured the scene, an officer spoke with the victim at the hospital. She told police she was asleep when she woke up to find McNair standing directly over her. After she woke up, he allegedly immediately began to stab and slash at her with an unknown type of blade. The victim said he then ran out of the room and down the stairs.
The victim told police McNair does not have a key for the house and often breaks in through a window in the basement.
Police say officers did find an open window in the basement while they were securing the scene.
The criminal complaint says McNair called 911 around 4:35 a.m. to report he may have a warrant for his arrest in connection to the stabbing and said he was at a GetGo on Butler Street.
Officers found McNair at the GetGo and took him into custody without incident.
McNair was sent to the Allegheny County Jail and is facing charges of aggravated assault and burglary.
