Woman In Critical Condition After Hit-And-Run
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A woman is in critical condition after a hit-and-run in Oakland Friday morning.
It happened around 7 a.m. when the woman was struck crossing Bates Street by a possible dark sedan.
The vehicle kept going and the woman was taken to the hospital in critical condition, according to police.
Police on the scene say that two witnesses were able to provide limited information, saying it was a possible Chevy Cobalt involved.
Pittsburgh Police were also looking at possible surveillance video from a Mad Mex on the corner of Atwood and Bates streets.
KDKA spoke with several people who live in the area who say Bates is notorious for two things -- jay walkers and speeding cars.
"That easily could have been me," said Chelsea Limbacher. "Because along with her, me and a bunch of other students are always crossing the street like that because there are no cross walks here."
"Myself and my roommates have both had encounters with cars that have abruptly stopped right in front of us," said Frank Tornetta.
There are a lot of college students in the area walking to class.
They say Bates Street has several blocks with no stop signs or crosswalks, forcing pedestrians into the road at their own risk.
"I'm surprised it hasn't happened more often," said Sean Womack. "Cars come flying up and down this road. And with the hill, it makes it kind of hard to see where they're coming from."'
