Woman Hit By Car While Turning Into Driveway
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – A Lawrence County woman was trapped in her car after being hit by an SUV as she was turning into her driveway.
Around 1:20 a.m. Saturday, 19-year-old Megan Roddy of Mercer, was hit by an SUV traveling down Route 208 in New Wilmington.
She was turning left into her driveway in the 300-block of East Neshannock Avenue, when she was struck broadside by a Jeep Grand Cherokee being driven by 21-year-old Sean Catterson. He was driving behind her on Route 208.
Roddy was trapped for a short time until emergency crews could remove the car's door and was unconscious from apparent head injuries resulting from the crash.
Catterson and passenger, 20-year-old Brandon Ferrari, were not hurt in the crash.
She was flown to St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Youngstown, Ohio. She is in serious condition.
Shortly before the crash, both cars passed a police officer, who was about to pull over Catterson for excessive speed.
Catterson failed a field sobriety test when police arrived at the scene.
Authorities say preliminary information lead them to believe that road rage, alcohol impairment and excess speed all contributed to the crash.
Route 208 was closed for six hours while investigators reviewed the crash scene.
