Pedestrian Killed After Being Hit By 3 Vehicles In Strip District

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A pedestrian was killed after being hit by three vehicles Tuesday morning in the Strip District and police have located one vehicle that did not stop after the accident.

The accident happened just after 7 a.m. this morning near the intersection of 14th and Smallman Streets.

According to police,  a van making a left from 14th to Smallman, hit the woman first as she crossed in a crosswalk. Eventually, she was hit two more times, and ended up underneath a white SUV.

"The pedestrian was knocked into the opposing lane at which time she was struck by a large truck, and then the Honda you see behind us," said Sgt. Dan Collolly. "We don't think the truck realized that it hit someone, two vehicles stopped and we believe that the large truck didn't realize that he may have hit her. You know it's a 33,000 pound truck hitting a 100 pound woman and I don't think the truck realized it did it."

Police released a surveillance picture of a white truck with a picture of a woman near the rear of it. The truck was located Tuesday afternoon on Interstate 90 near the Interstate 79 Interchange in Erie.

The victim has been identified as 53-year-old Judith Koller.

Investigators spent the morning recreating just how it happened and say it will be a while before they determine if and when charges may be filed.
