Woman Heading To Trial After Striking Girl, 8, With Truck
IRWIN (KDKA) - A woman accused of hitting an 8-year-old girl with her pick-up truck is going to trial.
Kathleen Marie Ciesielski, 47, of North Irwin, was in court for a preliminary hearing Wednesday morning.
Police say Ciesielski struck the girl on Third Street on Sept. 22. She was turning into an alley when she allegedly ran into the girl with her truck.
"She struck a small child who was on a scooter, causing serious injury to her," said Officer Russell Hoffman, of the Irwin Police Department.
The child survived, but police say Ciesielski should have never been in the pickup that allegedly ran down the little girl.
"Absolutely not, per her criminal record, she has a DUI suspended license, that means she should not have been operating that vehicle at the time of the incident," said Officer Hoffman.
Ciesielski faces numerous charges, including careless driving and felony accident involving death or major injury while not properly licensed.
She is free on $15,000 bond.
The 8-year-old's parents were at the hearing, but they declined comment.
But police say despite being hit by a pickup truck, the girl is making progress in her recovery.
"She's still in a wheelchair, but she's still doing well and is in good spirits. And we're happy to see that said Irwin Police Chief Roger Pivirotto.
Ciesielski's attorney declined any comment.
All charges were waived to court, and no trial date has been set.
