Woman Charged In Magee-Womens Hospital Baby Abduction
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A woman has been charged with kidnapping a newborn from Magee-Womens Hospital.
The three-day-old baby was taken from Magee-Womens Hospital in Oakland Thursday afternoon by 19-year-old Breona Moore, of McKeesport, who was wearing nursing scrubs.
Pittsburgh police say she was found with the baby in a stairwell on the 21st floor of the Investment Building on Fourth Avenue at around 6 p.m. Police arrested her at the scene and interrogated Moore for several hours.
KDKA's Bob Allen Reports:
When she arrived at police headquarters, Moore appeared jovial and showed little to no remorse.
"I hurt one person's feelings that I love," she told reporters.
"Mom, it's all your fault," Moore said while looking at the TV cameras. "Dad, you too. Y'all were never [expletive] there."
Earlier, police questioned a so-called person of interest. She was released.
Moore says she didn't act alone.
"I kept telling you, it wasn't just me," she said.
Police say Moore didn't know the infant's parents.
KDKA's Paul Martino Reports:
Her family says she had been telling people she was pregnant, but they didn't believe her. When they heard about the abduction, they called police and said she might be a suspect.
"When they saw reports that, 'Hey, we have an abduction here in the city of Pittsburgh,' they put two and two together and said, 'Hey, you may want to look at Breona Moore,'" Pittsburgh Police Commander Thomas Stangrecki said.
Stangrecki says Moore's family also helped police find her in the Investment Building downtown.
"She was communicating with her family," he said. "Miss Moore's family was very cooperative with us. We're thankful for that as well."
Stangrecki took the blame for the Amber Alert that was never issued. He said the state wanted more information and by the time he got all the information needed for the alert, Moore had already been arrested.
Moore has been charged with kidnapping and endangering the welfare of a child. She was taken to the Allegheny County Jail.
