Woman Accused In Fatal High-Speed Chase Waives Extradition Hearing
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (KDKA) -- The woman accused of leading police on a high-speed chase and crash that claimed the life of one police officer and injured another has waived her extradition hearing.
Kylee Barletto, 26, of New Castle, came to her extradition hearing in Youngstown, Ohio, bearing her own scars from the night her car slammed into a police cruiser, killing a Shenango Township police officer.
She appeared teary-eyed during the brief hearing.
She agreed to waive extradition and return to face the legal system in Pennsylvania. She ended up in Ohio only because she was taken to a trauma center in Youngstown.
The last time she was seen publicly was as she sat on a curb shortly after the crash. Her lawyer says she sustained emotional as well as physical damage. He spoke with her before the hearing.
"She was crying really hysterically," said defense attorney Jim Ecker. "She has, as far as you may or may not know, a broken nose, several broken ribs, a bad leg. She's been dizzy ever since this happened, with problems with her head."
The hearing comes just a day after the funeral of Shenango Township Officer Jerry McCarthy. Could the public sentiment after that lead to a change of venue?
"Myself and the family certainly feel very, very sorry for the officers that were involved in this - the one that was injured and the one that died," said Ecker. "We feel very, very badly about that, but I haven't given any thought to change of venue at this time."
Her family watched it all teary-eyed as well.
"We're just devastated," they said as they left the courtroom.
The judge accepted her waiver of extradition and ordered her returned to Pennsylvania by Monday.
