Wolf Urges Lawmakers Not To Pass New Abortion Restrictions
HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) - Gov. Tom Wolf is urging lawmakers not to hold a vote next week on bill to place new limits to abortions in Pennsylvania and is repeating that he'll veto the measure if it passes.
The Democratic governor said Friday the House bill is unconstitutional and would give the state the most restrictive abortion regulations in the country.
The House plans a final vote Monday on a Republican-sponsored bill to prohibit elective abortions after 20 weeks, compared to 24 in current law. It also would criminalize procedures that cause the deaths of fetuses by removing their body parts.
Wolf calls the proposal a step "far back" that says "bad things about Pennsylvania."
If it passes, it'll still need Senate approval to make it to Wolf's desk.
