W&J Football Player's Father Reflects Following Arrests In Son's Death
BUTLER (KDKA) -- Dr. Robert McNerney took a break from making rounds at Butler Memorial Hospital on Wednesday to reflect on the three men who are accused in the death of his son, Timothy.
"I certainly hope that they pay for their crime," said Dr. McNerney. "I certainly hope that at some point they rehabilitate themselves."
Adam Hankins, Troy Simmons and Eric Wells were busted Tuesday night. They're accused in the beating death of Washington & Jefferson College football player Tim McNerney.
Tim's dad is restrained in his anger.
"I try to displace that malice because it's really just another emotional load for me," he says.
One of the toughest days for the McNerneys came last May when the family accepted Timothy's diploma posthumously.
"That was both extremely uplifting and terribly heart wrenching," said Dr. McNerney. "When my surviving son went up to receive his diploma that was extremely poignant, but it also brought back the grief which we had to work through for a period of time after that."
Despite his pain, Dr. McNerney has praise for the investigators who tracked the suspects down.
"I'm glad that they've been caught and I want to see justice done," he said.
