Wiz Khalifa Surprises Students At His Alma Mater, Allderdice High School
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- It was the best kept secret in town.
As students at Allderdice High School in Squirrel Hill packed their auditorium Tuesday morning, a super famous alumnus was waiting in the wings, rapper Wiz Khalifa.
Students screamed as the rapper walked onto the stage of his alma mater. He talked to the teens about the importance of a good education and working hard.
"I thought it was nice," said Shianne Brown, a junior. "I liked the fact that he came back to talk to us, that was generous, he didn't have to do that."
"I want you guys to just be as safe as possible, show each other as much love as possible, and just try your hardest to do your best, okay?" Khalifa told the students.
After he spoke, he let students ask questions.
One senior asked him to perform at prom this year, and he said he's consider it.
Another teen, Ronald Brown, was invited to take over the mic. Brown even put his number in the rapper's cell phone.
"Honestly, that's the best moment," Brown said. "One of the best moments of my life, you know."
"I definitely see potential in the kid, Ron, for jumping up on stage and rapping in front of all of his friends and his peers," said Khalifa. "If you can do that here, you can do that anywhere."
Khalifa didn't visit the school empty-handed. He brought 1,700 book bags
The backpacks will be passed out to students in the city's middle and high schools.
"It feels awesome to be back at Allderdice," said Khalifa. "I love my school, I love Pittsburgh and I love being able to spread some positivity and give kids some hope."
