Winter Storm Headed Towards Pittsburgh
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – A winter storm is closing in on the Pittsburgh region just days before people embark on holiday travels.
Rain has started in the area, and that should change over to snow overnight.
There will be a mild high of 50 degrees with gusty winds developing. On average, winds will blow from the southeast at 15 to 25 mph, but there will be higher gusts.
A cold front will switch the rain to snow by midnight with a coating of snow by morning across the area.
The overnight low will be 32 degrees, so watch for icy spots in the Friday morning commute.
Then, more snow will fall on Friday and into Saturday.
A general 2 to 4 inches can be expected for the southwest Pennsylvania region.
Up to 4 inches can be expected near Interstate 80 and 6 inches or more can be expected in the Laurel Highlands.
Travel will be difficult through the mountains Friday and Saturday with snow and gusty winds reducing visibilities.
Our high in Pittsburgh on Friday and Saturday will be about 33 degrees.
