Wind Leaves Trail Of Damage Throughout Pittsburgh Region
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Intense wind was wreaking havoc throughout the Pittsburgh region.
The situation is better, but thousands of homes in Western Pennsylvania were still without power Monday night.
High winds brought down trees and wires throughout the area.
West Penn Power reported 16,000 homes out at the peak, but it was down to 6,800 by Monday evening. Most of those homes are in Washington and Allegheny counties.
Meantime, Duquesne Light had 25,000 customers without service earlier. By Monday night, it was down to 7,000 in Allegheny and Beaver Counties.
A large transmission line also came down in Peters Township, bringing down wires and also knocking out power.
Police are directing traffic in some areas where the lights are out.
A house fire on Clinton Road in Bethel Park may have also been caused by some downed wires.
The wind is also knocking down trees in some places.
In Upper St. Clair, wind knocked over a tree on McMurray Road causing traffic backups.
In Weirton, West Virginia, the wind was strong enough to blow over a gas station canopy.
And in Cecil Township, traffic lights were out on Morganza Road.
