Will Rochester Alumnus Moye Survive Steelers' Final Cuts?
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (93-7 THE FAN) -- Head coach Mike Tomlin looks to avoid a winless preseason, but, more importantly, also looks to pare his roster down to the mandatory 53 players after the Steelers meet the Carolina Panthers at Bank of America Stadium at 7:30 on KDKA-TV.
Steelers featured columnist Chris G. of Bleacher Report projects Rochester product Derek Moye, battling for one of the last wide receiver spots, will make the team in a special teams role.
"In reality, a fifth receiver will rarely see the field in offensive formations. Any ball that goes his way is one that does not go to Antonio Brown, Emmanuel Sanders, Jerricho Cotchery or Markus Wheaton. This is why special teams play will be considered. As the season approaches, Moye is trending up and has the edge as the better pure receiver," he writes. "If the Steelers are set with special teams players, Moye will earn the final spot over Brown."
Moye, 25, a Penn State product who earned three first-team All-PIAA selections in high school, had been previously cut by the Dolphins and Saints. He has eight catches for 94 yards and one touchdown in the preseason.

Meanwhile, the column by Chris G. corroborates a report from Dale Lolley of The Washington Observer-Reporter that Isaac Redman will be the starting running back until rookie Le'Veon Bell's foot sprain is sufficiently healed.
It doesn't put a favorable spin on the stead of Jonathan Dwyer, who, last season, ran every play like he was fighting for a job--and, frankly, he was. In a rough year for the entire running game, he only needed 623 yards and two TD runs to lead the team in both categories.
While fellow tailback Baron Batch was cut, Dwyer got the majority of the reps the last two preseason games, over 20% of which went for ten or more yards, according to the SB Nation blog "Behind The Steel Curtain." He has 108 yards on 28 attempts in three exhibition games.
Redman was held out of the last two preseason contests after gaining just seven yards on two carries in the first one against the Giants.
The Steelers kick off the 2013 regular season two Sundays from now against the Tennessee Titans at Heinz Field, another game that will be seen on KDKA-TV.
