Will Pryor Be Allowed In Supplemental Draft?
Pittsburgh (KDKA)- Terrelle Pryor may follow in the footsteps of another Ohio State football player, Maurice Clarett.
In 2004, Clarett used legal action to fight the league's "three-year-rule" for draft eligibility. Pryor is reportedly willing to fight the NFL to gain entry into the league's supplemental draft.
Pryor's situation does not fit the league's outline for supplemental draft eligibility. The heart of the issue lies in the way Pryor left Ohio State.
It is yet to be determined whether Pryor had a choice but to leave the University. After all, Pryor still has one year of eligibility left. He could have transferred to a lower division school and played this season.
In the past, players were only granted supplemental entry if they had lost the ability to finish their college careers because of grades or other circumstances. Pryor left on his own accord before any ruling came from the NCAA regarding his eligibility for the entire 2011 season.
If he is not granted eligibility, Pryor will have to wait until the 2012 NFL draft to join the league. In the meantime, he would be eligible to play in other professional leagues like the CFL.
