Wilkinsburg Neighbors Concerned After Latest Murder

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – There are new details this afternoon on Tuesday night's murder in Wilkinsburg.

Authorities say they responded to an apartment -- and found a man suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.

Allegheny County Police say they've narrowed in on a possible motive in this homicide in Wilkinsburg, but continue to look for suspects.

As police investigated the shooting death of 25-year-old Anthony Dawson last night, neighbors describe an emotional scene.

"Little children were out here crying, screaming and crying, saying why did you kill my dad," neighbor Chris Cardyn said.

Last night's homicide on South Avenue now marks the 12th homicide this year in Wilkinsburg. It's a record high now in the borough, that was previously marked by 10 murders in 1992.

Allegheny county police say in this latest case, it was Dawson's roommate who found him in the apartment with a gunshot wound to the head.

Police are making progress in the investigation.

"She returns home, finds him that way," Allegheny County Police Chief Lt. Andrew Schurman said. "Through the course of our investigation, we determined the potential motive was robbery."

Police say it does not appear that Dawson fired any shots himself and would not specify about any possible suspects.

"The potential is, the door was unlocked," Schurman said. "So an intruder could have easily walked right . There were definitely things removed from his person."

"It's just a shame," Cardyn said. "It's just a shame that this happened so close. You never know when it's going to happen."
