Probation Officer, Another Man Shot In Wilkinsburg
WILKINSBURG (KDKA) -- Police are looking for two suspects after a probation officer and another man were shot outside of a home in Wilkinsburg late Wednesday afternoon.
According to emergency dispatchers, the ambush-style shooting was first reported just before 5 p.m. at a home in the 1500 block of Marlboro Avenue.
"I was just sitting in my living room and heard the gunshots and I looked out the window and came out. That's when the neighbor called the police and shortly they showed up," one neighbor said.
The victims were on the front porch of the home when the shots rang out. Police say 11 or 12 shots were fired from a handgun.
"Upon their arrival, officers discovered two gunshot victims at 1543 Marlboro. Both victims were transported from the scene. At the time of transport, both victims were responsive to paramedics," said Allegheny County Police Supt. Coleman McDonough. "The suspects who came down an alley directly across the street from 1543 and began to fire at the victims who were seated on the porch of that residence."
KDKA's Ralph Iannotti Reports:
Police say a bullet penetrated the skull of the probation officer. His client was shot five times and was in surgery Thursday morning.
"One of the victims shot was a [Allegheny] County probation officer. He was responsive, walking and talking at the the time of transport," Supt. McDonough said.
Police won't release the name of the probation officer at this time. They say his client is on probation for previous gun violations.
Both are expected to survive their injuries.
The house was hit with nine bullets, and police found several shell casings in the alleyway.
"I'm scared. Too close for comfort. I have my granddaughter with me and I'm always afraid to have her on the porch half the time," neighbor Colletta Ward said.
Police are searching for two suspects. They are described as black males in their late teens or early 20s and were wearing all black clothing. They either ran off or had a car waiting.
KDKA's Amy Wadas Reports:
Multiple departments responded to the scene and assisted in the search, including Allegheny County Police, Allegheny County Sheriff's Office, Pittsburgh, Edgewood, Penn Hills, Plum and Swissvale police.
The incident happened only a few blocks from the tragic ambush-shooting last year on Franklin Avenue that killed five people, including a pregnant woman.
