Wilkinsburg Homeowner Turns Tables On Would-Be Robbers
WILKINSBURG (KDKA) - A home invasion in Wilkinsburg turned violent when the homeowner turned the tables on the would-be robbers.
According to police, two men, armed with a sawed-off shotgun, entered the home on Montier Street around 9:50 p.m. Monday.
That's when a man living there pulled out a revolver and opened fire, firing six times and critically injuring 18-year-old Jabar Owens, of Penn Hills, in the chest.
"There was a conversation between the occupants and the robbers, and (the robbers) were attempting to talk their way into the home," Allegheny County police detective Lt. Andrew Schurman said.
Owens is a Central Catholic High School student. He was taken to the hospital, critically wounded. He will be charged with robbery and weapons violations.
A second suspect, Jeremy Whittington, surrendered to Allegheny County Police on Tuesday. He contends he was just the driver.
A bloody trail led down the steps of the house to the street. A woman and two children ages two and three were inside the home at the time of the invasion.
Those in the home of the attempted robbery refused to comment on the situation.
