What To Do With Alex Presley?
Pittsburgh (KDKA)- Pirates outfield prospect Alex Presley is hitting the cover off the ball. Unfortunately for Presley, there doesn't appear to be room for him here in Pittsburgh.
Hitting .377 in Triple-A usually earns a player a promotion to the majors. That's not the case though with Presley. The 26-year old is hitting the ball as well as anytime in his career but he looks to be stuck in Indianapolis.
Presley is currently hitting .377, 4 HR, 16 RBI, 5 doubles and 2 triples. Check this out: over his last 10 games, Presley is hitting .474.
The most impressive part about this is that this is the second year in a row he's done this at Indianapolis.
Last year, Presley finished the season batting .320, 12 HR, 85 RBI, 28 doubles and 13 triples. Because of those numbers, he received a September call-up with the Pirates.
Unfortunately for Presley, he doesn't appear likely to get a recall anytime soon.
The Pirates outfield currently consists of Andrew McCutchen, Jose Tabata, Matt Diaz, Garrett Jones and Xavier Paul.
The worst thing for Presley was when the Pirates claimed Paul off waivers from the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Reason for that is Presley and Paul are similar type players: speed, left-handed, can play multiple positions and good defensively.
Pirates GM Neal Huntington was asked about Presley yesterday and he acknowledged that he was making things difficult on them because of how well he's playing. That's a good problem for the Pirates to be faced with.
Unfortunately, barring an injury, Presley is likely to spend the summer playing for Indianapolis not the Pirates.
