Westmoreland Manor Reports 20 Residents, 2 Workers Test Positive For Coronavirus

GREENSBURG, Pa. (KDKA) - Twenty residents at Westmoreland Manor have tested positive for coronavirus after routine testing of staff revealed two cases.
The county says one contract staff, one employee and 20 residents have tested positive after the Westmoreland Manor began routine testing of staff on Sept. 16. Many of the cases are asymptomatic, the county says. All positive patients are from the same unit.
"There was a contract nurse that came into the Westmoreland Manor. And she came into work and that's the situation," said Sean Kertes, chairperson of the Westmoreland County Commissioners, told KDKA's Jennifer Borrasso. "It happened with being in contact to our other staff members and the residents."
"From what we understand, they are doing well at this time, and we are hoping they continue to do well," Kertes added.
They say the facility had gone over six months without a resident case. The contract nurse and employee are in quarantine.
Employees and residents who tested negative will be retested every three to seven days until there are no new cases found for at least two weeks.
The facility is temporarily stopping face-to-face visitation and will consult with state officials going forward.
"We are going to be going back to doing tight restrictions like we did back in the early months when COVID was at the height," said Kertes.
Westmoreland County Commissioner Gina Cerilli released a statement, saying:
"Since March, my biggest fear was covid hitting Westmoreland Manor. Of course, with a 400 bed facility it was inevitable. Our management & staff are following all the guidelines by the state & feds. I know this is a very scary time for residents & families, but please know that our residents health & safety is our top priority. The manor will remain vigilant about its screening protocols and infection control procedures and will continue to monitor all residents and staff. We will keep the residents & families up to date as quickly as possible."
