Westmoreland Co. Woman's Death Under Investigation

LIGONIER (KDKA) - Officials in Westmoreland County are investigating the suspicious circumstances surrounding a woman's death.

Mia Vottero, 25, was found dead at the home of a 53-year-old local physician that she had recently met.

Investigators said she spent the night at the doctor's home at the end of Shawnee Lane, a secluded private drive, and was found unresponsive the next morning.

Ligonier Township police say empty and nearly empty pill bottles were found in the Greensburg woman's purse.

The chief says it's protocol under suspicious circumstances to launch a criminal investigation.

"Not at the norm – 25-years-old … you don't normally have someone just pass away in general, so we have to look at a cause and we don't' know where that cause is going to lead," Ligonier Township Police Chief Michael Matrunics said.

"There is no one in custody right now and that's just pending investigation on all that information," he added.

The official police affidavit says, "Given the suspicious nature of her death, additional officers were called to assist along with Westmoreland County detectives. (They) agreed that there symptoms were consistent with an overdose from medication."

The affidavit goes on to say the pair had gone out to a club the night before. The doctor admits they had an intimate relationship.

Meanwhile, police are awaiting the results of an autopsy and toxicology reports.
