Westmoreland Co. Man Arrested On Drug Charges At DUI Checkpoint
EAST DEER TOWNSHIP (KDKA) – A man was arrested on drug charges at a sobriety checkpoint in Armstrong County Saturday night.
According to police, Travis James Lasko Jr. 31, of Arnold, was arrested at a checkpoint on Route 28 in East Deer Township shortly after 11 p.m.
An officer noticed, Lasko Jr. switch seats with a passenger after bringing the vehicle to a sudden stop. At that time, he allegedly threw a marijuana cigarette out the window.
When the officer approached the vehicle, they detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. The officer could also smell marijuana emanating from Lasko Jr.'s breath.
Police also found two clear plastic bags containing what is believed to be marijuana in the glove box. In addition to the suspected marijuana, police also found and confiscated $7,000 in cash.
Lasko Jr. is facing a list of charges including, DUI, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
It was also determined that Lasko Jr. did not have a valid license and that the vehicle's registration was suspended because of an insurance cancellation.
