2 Children, Woman And CYF Worker Make It Out Safe In North Side SWAT Situation While Suspect Remains On The Run
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - The search continues Wednesday for a suspect wanted for an alleged assault on a female CYF worker.
Police tell KDKA the suspect likely escaped before SWAT officers set up a perimeter around the home on West North Avenue on the North Side.
KDKA's Meghan Schiller talked to Maurice Matthews, public information officer with Pittsburgh Bureau of Police.
"A CYF official called 911 after she was assaulted by a male inside while trying to perform her duties," said Matthews.
A single file line of SWAT officers rushed inside the home while nearby officers posted up with guns drawn. Officers were not sure if the male suspect had any weapons inside the home.
Police say after the alleged assault, the CYF worker escaped the rowhome with a 7-year-old child, but told police that an adult female and 2-year-old were still inside the home with the suspect.
"They (SWAT) called for a female and a 2-year-old and they were escorted outside the house, K-9 and SWAT did go through the house and did not find the male," said Matthews.
All that -- and no suspect. Police believe he might have escaped the home before SWAT established a perimeter.
Police tell KDKA the children are safe tonight, along with the adult female and female CYF worker.
Family members hugged on the sidewalk, while SWAT officers debriefed in the front yard.
Pittsburgh Police do not have a name or suspect description to release at this time.
