Weirton Restaurant To Flyers: No Ribs For You!
PITTSBURGH (NewsRadio 1020 KDKA) -- The Philadelphia Flyers have a special ritual after games in Pittsburgh, before getting on their plane, they get a big order of ribs from DeeJay's in Weirton, W. Va.
Hockey players are prone to superstition, and the players attribute their 5-0 record against the Penguins when playing in Pittsburgh to the fact that they have eaten those ribs after all five games. To them, they believe it's a ritual that guarantees a win.
For the last regular season game, the Flyers play the Penguins in Pittsburgh. Dewey Guida, owner of DeeJay's, says he won't be selling any ribs to the Flyers; partly because he's a huge Penguins fan, and partly because he'll be closed the next day for Easter and can't make the ribs.
KDKA AM's John Shumway talks to Guida about RibGate and how Philadelphia is up in arms.
