Weekend Road Construction Could Tie Up Traffic Around City

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- If you are out and about this weekend, you will likely see a lot of construction.

One spot where crews will be working is the portal bridge, or the ramps that connect the inbound Fort Duquesne Bridge to the Fort Pitt Bridge.

The Parkway East will also be closed because of resurfacing.

They will be off limits from 10 p.m. Friday until around 5 a.m. Monday.

"Motorists coming in from the Parkway North will have to take the 65 ramp up to the West End Bridge out to the Parkway West; or if they want to come into the city, take the loop around ramp and come back through the Fort Pitt Tunnel," said Jim Struzzi, of PennDOT.

Another location to watch out for this weekend is along Banksville Road, or Route 19.

"Essentially, from Wenzel Avenue down to the Parkway West, Banksville traffic will be reduced to a single lane in each direction from 8 p.m. tonight through Monday morning," Struzzi added.

Across town, retaining wall construction will jam up traffic on Route 28, between Millvale and the East Ohio Street exit.

Inbound traffic will be down to a single lane beginning at 8 p.m. Friday until 6 p.m. Saturday.

"That's going to be a big impact to people come Saturday afternoon because Route 28 does see a lot of traffic in the afternoons, on Saturdays, coming in to the city," Struzzi said.

In addition to the big projects, there will also be paving and smaller scale work in various locations. Your best bet, allow extra time no matter where you're headed.
