Weather Advisories Issued As Snow, Rain Expected
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Snow and ice are expected Tuesday afternoon and evening, bringing a wintry mix to Pittsburgh.
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for much of the area.
"Between that four hour time period, between 10 and 2, is when there will be a Winter Weather Advisory in effect that does include most of the viewing area," said KDKA Chief Meteorologist Jeff Verszyla.
Less than an inch of snow is expected, but the NWS says that could turn into sleet and freezing rain later in the day," said Verszyla.
"Down through tonight, clouds will be gradually increasing, so we'll turn mostly cloudy, temperatures will dip into the mid-teens.
"[Tuesday], we'll rise into the mid-40s, but before that occurs, [precipitation] is going to arrive in the area late in the morning with a wintry mix of [precipitation] for probably about two, three, four hours at most between about 10 and 2 before the transition to plain rain occurs the second half of the afternoon and that will continue light rain and drizzle into [Tuesday] night," he added.
Additionally, a Flood Advisory has also been issued for the Ohio River until Friday morning.
"A low pressure system developing today in the Southwest United States will sweep eastward over the next 36 to 48 hours bringing widespread precipitation to our region," the NWS said in a statement.
Officials say the Mon Wharf may close because of it.
