Water Main Ruptures On Route 19 In Cranberry Twp.

CRANBERRY TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- Crews anticipate reopening both northbound lanes of Route 19 in Cranberry by Friday morning, after a water main break Thursday evening caused traffic gridlock.

A 12-inch line ruptured, buckling the highway surface and flooding the parking lot of a nearby dentist's office.

Stores and restaurants at The Streets of Cranberry shopping complex lost water, and some restaurants such as Houlihan's and Aladdin's Eatery were forced to shut down for the night.

The township did set up a water buffalo in the parking lot for the businesses.

By 8 p.m. Thursday, the passing lane of Route 19 northbound reopened. By 11 p.m., crews had replaced the broken line and were working to fill in the large hole.

They plan on temporarily patching the road surface, so it can be reopened for the Friday morning commute.
