Water Main Break Damages Car Dealership
NORTH HUNTINGDON (KDKA) -- Employees at a local car dealership in Westmoreland County are assessing the damage today after a large water main break caused major damage inside their building on Wednesday night.
The break happened around 8:30 p.m. at the Jim Shorkey Kia dealership on Route 30 in North Huntingdon.
A four-inch line reportedly broke and spilled 77,000 gallons of water, officials said.
"We had a pipe break in our drive-thru," Jim Shorkey III said. "We don't know why or how it broke."
Officials say when firefighters arrived, one office had about six feet of water in it.
No cars in the showroom were damaged, but the cleanup is just beginning.
"Literally water everywhere – everywhere you looked we had water everywhere," Shorkey said.
He's now waiting on his insurance company to give an estimate on the damage.
The new Kia showroom opened in May of last year. Shorkey hopes to get everything back to normal next week.
He thanks the local fire departments for helping to get the water out of the building.
Customer service and sales are happening through Shorkey's Suzuki dealership up the road.
