Water Main Break Causes Problems For North Hills Residents
ROSS TOWNSHIP (KDKA) – A water main break in Ross Township erupted with such great force Friday morning, that water was seen shooting out of the ground.
Nearly two dozen homes in the area were left without service.
It was a busy morning for crews with the West View Water Authority. They dealt with the water main break near Reis Run and Rochester roads.
The 16-inch water main broke just before 4 a.m.
Crews had to turn off the water to make repairs.
"In talking with West View Water, we do expect that at least for the foreseeable future, the roadway will only be open to emergency vehicles," said Ross Township Police Sgt. Benjamin Dripps.
The break happened right behind the water authority distribution center.
A portion of the parking lot and a small bridge leading to a warehouse, storing pipes and other equipment, were destroyed by the rushing water.
The break also caused issues for the North Hills School District.
Bus 338 that services North Hills High School, North Hills Middle School and McIntyre Elementary, was unable to run its normal route Friday morning.
Students from all three schools had wait at the Sir Pizza at Sewickley Oakmont and Rochester roads for the bus.
"We were notified by the robo call that the bus stop was down here this morning," said neighbor Jim Councilor. "So just a little bit longer drive."
Officials with the water authority say they expect repairs to take up to 10 hours.
