WATCH: President Obama Calls Penguins Coach Mike Sullivan, Invites Team To White House
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Pittsburgh Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan received quite the phone call after winning the Stanley Cup.
President Barack Obama called up Sullivan to invite the team to the White House to celebrate.
"Send my congratulations to Sidney and the rest of the team on an amazing season," the President said.
Mr. Obama said, "I started off my presidency with a Penguins Stanley Cup and now I'm ending it with a Penguins Stanley Cup."
Coach Sullivan talked about what a great group of players they had and how proud he was of them.
""I appreciate humility, but you need to take some credit, because you did a heck of a job coaching," the President told him.
President Obama said he was okay with the Penguins winning the Stanley Cup since his Chicago Blackhawks have had three Stanley Cup wins since he's been in office.
