WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- Several children were injured in a school bus crash Tuesday afternoon in Westmoreland County.
Emergency officials say the accident happened just before 4 p.m. at Route 66 and Mamont Road in Washington Township.
Kathleen Monahan told KDKA's Kym Gable that she didn't know what to expect when she received the phone call about her son.
"They said the school bus had been in an accident. They said he was in a neck brace, so I was really, really scared," Monahan said.
Paramedics transported seven children to UPMC East in Monroeville.
Monahan's son, Trevaughn, hit the back and front of his head on the bus seats.
"It went forward, and when it went backward, the truck slammed into us. It was pretty bad," said 10-year-old Trevaughn.
He was among 20 fifth and sixth graders from Kiski Upper Elementary on board the bus. His mother, Marji Jo Patton, arrived at the scene in enough time to ride in the ambulance with her son.
She says it was a water tank truck that collided with the bus.
"The first responders were there and they helped out, and we were very relieved and happy that they took care of everything they needed," she said.
None of the injuries was serious. All the children were treated and released.
