Warnings, Advisories In Effect As Winter Storm Moves In

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – A major winter storm is slamming the east coast. Parts of our area are getting the full brunt of the storm, while others have barely seen any effects.

The snow began falling in Pittsburgh around 11 a.m. According to the National Weather Service, about one inch of snow had fallen in the city by 1 p.m.

However, areas south and east of the city have not been so lucky.

By 1 p.m., Garrett County, Md. had already seen over a foot of snow fall.

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for Garrett County, Md. through 7 p.m. The most intense snow will fall until about 2 p.m.

The same warning is in effect for Preston County, W. Va.

In Pennsylvania, a Winther Weather Advisory is in effect until 10 p.m. for Cambria, Greene, Indiana, and Somerset counties.

According to KDKA-TV Meteorologist Dennis Bowman, Thursday's high temperature will be about 32 degrees with the low being 22 degrees.
