Ward Pleads Guilty To Lesser Charge In DUI Case
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward has entered a plea in a Georgia courtroom stemming from a DUI arrest last year.
He was arrested on July 9, after a Dekalb County police officer said he saw Ward hit a curb and drive out of his lane.
Ward has reportedly pleaded guilty to a lesser count of reckless driving. The DUI charge was dropped.
Ward is facing a 12-month probation, 80 hours of community service and a $2,000 fine.
In a police report issued in July of 2011, police said Ward could not keep his balance, mixed up and omitted letters while reciting the alphabet and refused a breathalyzer test.
A portable reading showed a blood alcohol level of 0.128, but the test was not admissible in court.
Ward's agent said in a statement: "By dropping the DUI charges, it is clear that the prosecution did not have sufficient evidence … Hines has always maintained that his ability to drive was in no way impaired."
