Walk On Wednesday: Pitchers Babied, Yet Still Get Hurt
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) -- Pirates color commentator and former pitcher Bob Walk joined The Fan Morning Show today for another edition of his weekly segment, "Walk on Wednesday."
He wasn't a fan of the Nationals shutting down tonight's starter Stephen Strasburg during the latter stages of their dominant 2012 campaign.
"I think pitchers in general are babied a lot, and it still seems like they get hurt," Walk said. "Let these guys go out and do their jobs."
He feels that the Pirates are built to withstand a bullpen injury just about as well as any team, but still thinks that losing Jason Grilli could affect them, and that it wouldn't hurt to be proactive about it.
He noted that rookie Bucs' starter Gerrit Cole has not been getting a lot of swings and misses, though he expects that to come later. He thinks Cole has had good control so far.
"Walk on Wednesday" can be heard every Wednesday on The Fan Morning Show at 8:40 a.m.
