Walk On Wednesday: "It Had To Happen Eventually"
PITTSBURGH (93-7 THE FAN) -- Pirates' broadcaster and former pitcher Bob Walk joined the guys on The Fan Morning Show for his weekly spot "Walk on Wednesday" in the wake of a 10-4 Bucs loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks.
He understood that it's rough that the Pirates blew an eighth inning lead last night after starting the season 53-0 when leading after eight, but said that the streak was bound to end eventually, and that the Diamondbacks weren't the worst team to have it happen against.
He also addressed the idea of putting Starling Marte in right field at some point down the line, given how strong the current left fielder's throws have been. He didn't like the idea of moving a player around based on each ballpark's dimensions, and felt PNC Park's small right field should factor into where Marte is placed in the future.
"He definitely has a right-fielder cannon hanging out his side... so maybe long-term he becomes a right fielder. It's almost a waste of that speed that he has to put him in our right field."
