Walk On Wednesday: Good Chance That Locke's Next Start Is Skipped
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) -- Former Pirates pitcher and current color commentator Bob Walk joined The Fan Morning Show today for his weekly "Walk on Wednesday" interview.
Walk says that there is a very large chance that Jeff Locke will not make his start, because the Pirates can't afford to have a guy that is inconsistent in the rotation down the stretch. He expects that decision to be discussed when Hurdle and Searage get in today.
He thinks that a combination of things have gone wrong with Locke. He's happy to see that Locke has accepted the blame for everything when there have been external factors that he could have used as excuses.
Walk is excited to see Marlon Byrd and John Buck coming to the Pirates from the Mets. Bob says that Byrd was the type of player that the Pirates were looking for a month ago, and he sees Byrd as a nice fit in the middle of the lineup, especially against left-handed pitchers, because they can no longer pitch around Andrew McCutchen or Pedro Alvarez at will.
Walk said that he hates to be critical of Jose Tabata in the absence of Starling Marte, but pointed to last night as a prime example of how important Marte is in that left field spot, especially when it comes to home games. He sees Marte as an awesome defensive outfielder who could win multiple gold gloves.
"Walk on Wednesday" can be heard every Wednesday on The Fan Morning Show at 8:40 a.m.
