VisitPittsburgh Announces Summer Schedule Of Events

PITTSBURGH (NewsRadio 1020 KDKA) - Summer is almost here, it's getting warmer and you want to be outside. You don't want to be repetitive or boring because there's plenty going on in Pittsburgh this summer.

Craig Davis, of VisitPittsburgh, stopped by the KDKA Afternoon News to detail new events coming the 'Burgh this summer for your enjoyment.

Lots of planning goes into bringing acts and events to the city, and Davis gives us an insight into how VisitPittsburgh does just that.

"What VisitPittsburgh does is we work to correlate all these different events, and then we process them and put them out to the public to let them know that they are coming and when they are coming. And it makes us more prepared, it makes for a better visitor experience while they are here," Davis said.

There is something for everyone.

Davis detailed some of the events and things you can go see this summer! Whether you want to spend a day with the family, looking or a date night idea, or want a fun night out, Davis is confident you can find what you are looking for downtown this summer.

"There is a great mixture of public events which will for sure draw people in from the outside and planned conventions," Davis said.

Some of the top summer events as listed by VisitPittsburgh include:

  • Farmers Market - May 15 - Oct. 30
  • Dancing in the Square with USA Dance - Friday's in Market Square
  • Yoga in the Square with Lululemon - June 1 - August 24
  • Dollar Bank Three Rivers Arts Festival - June 6-15
  • KidsPlay - June 10 - August 26
  • Pittsburgh Pride - June 14-15

Meanwhile, there's also lots of talk surrounding the Democratic National Convention possibly coming to Pittsburgh, but could we handle all that traffic? Davis tells us he is confident we could plan a way for it to work.

"A lot of your listeners out there will say, 'Well, can Pittsburgh fit a DNC?' And the answer is, yes. We do have facilities, we have the rooms, we have all the infrastructure to handle a DNC. It would probably be a cost issue. Can the local party raise the funds that are needed to host the event?" Davis said.
