Victim's Neighbors In Custody After Crafton Heights Burglary
CRAFTON HEIGHTS (KDKA) -- The victims of a brazen Thanksgiving burglary say they feel the ultimate betrayal after their next-door neighbors were taken into custody in connection with the crime.
The incident happened in Crafton Heights.
Thomas and Courtney Brown went away for four days.
When they returned to their Crucible Street apartment Sunday night, they found it ransacked.
Thousands of dollars of belongings had been stolen including a television, DVDs, phones, games and even their nephews' piggy banks.
They later learned their next door neighbors at 1555 Crucible Street were suspects.
Thomas Brown told KDKA's Kym Gable: "We work so hard for our stuff, and to have someone come in and take everything overnight, it's very nerve-racking and it just makes you angry."
Police were on scene for hours.
They got a search warrant and took a woman and man into custody. Officers would not release their names or comment on possible charges.
Detectives were able to salvage some stolen items, but many had been destroyed.
Authorities say at least one of the neighbors has been arrested and will be facing criminal charges, not only in connection with the burglary but also in connection with allegedly possessing a stolen shotgun from the Allegheny County Sheriff's Department.
