Vehicle To Slams Into West Marine Shop Showroom
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The force of the acceleration brought the car, driven by a 78-year-old female driver, right up next to some of the boats in the showroom at West Marine on McKnight Road.
It happened about 10:30 a.m. in Ross Township
There were employees in the shop, but neither the driver or anyone who worked there was seriously hurt.
Jordan Tinker, 20, took pictures of the car.
He is part of a paint crew doing work at the McKnight-Seibert Shopping Center and who had a close encounter with the car.
"While I was walking down the sidewalk, the next thing you know I hear tires screeching and the lady jumps up over the curb in her car, goes flying right through the window into the West Marine shop," said Tinker.
"She was about five feet away," he adds.
By afternoon, reconstruction crews were on the scene doing initial repairs and boarding up the damage to the huge window and the store itself.
The cause was something relatively common in cases like this one.
"She said she tried to put her foot on the brake and ended up hitting the gas, so that's what caused her getting up over the curb; but a couple people helped her get out of there and she ended up being all right, so that's good," said Tinker.
"Just thinking about it, a couple seconds later it could have been a lot worse you know," he says.
Ross Township Police say they do not plan to charge the driver.
They determined it is an accident.
